Outreach


Due to an incredible demand for our services at our site in Oldham, we are now offering an outreach programme to schools. In short, this means that our highly successful model of combining physical activity with academic writing will be available to small groups of pupils within their school setting.

Programme 1: Martial Arts Mindset

This 7-week programme combines kickboxing training with values-based reflection work to help students develop discipline, self-esteem, and resilience. Through structured physical training and guided discussions, pupils will engage in exercises that challenge them both physically and mentally.

Programme Structure

  • Duration: 7 weeks

  • Session Length: 1.5 hours per week (afternoon sessions)

  • Number of Students: 4 students per group

  • Coach: Blake Pennington (Kickboxing Instructor & Youth Mentor)

Key Component

  1. Kickboxing Training – Students will learn fundamental kickboxing techniques, footwork, and controlled sparring to develop discipline, focus, and physical fitness.

  2. Reflection & Values Work – Each session incorporates discussions on self-esteem, teamwork, respect, and personal growth.

  3. Equipment & Materials Provided – Kickboxing gloves, pads, and all necessary equipment will be supplied. Pupils will also receive personal reflection booklets to track progress and develop positive habits.

  4. Goal Setting & Progress Tracking – Each pupil will set personal goals and track their progress throughout the programme.

  5. Wrap-Up & Celebration – The final session will celebrate achievements and reflect on lessons learned.

Programme Objectives

  • Develop self-discipline, confidence, and resilience.

Suitable pupils

  • Pupils in year 7 and 8 that require some early intervention into their behaviour. 

  • Pupils that are starting to gain exclusions and detentions where they weren't before. 

Programme 2: Modern Masculinity – Challenging Toxic Masculinity

This 7-week programme is designed to engage young men in conversations around modern masculinity, challenging harmful stereotypes and promoting positive male identity. Through structured discussions, kickboxing, and reflection work, pupils will explore themes such as emotional intelligence, healthy relationships, and self-expression.

  1. Understanding Masculinity – Exploring different perspectives on masculinity and its impact on identity.

  2. Challenging Toxic Masculinity – Discussing the impact of social conditioning, peer pressure, and media representations.

  3. Emotional Intelligence & Vulnerability – Encouraging healthy emotional expression and self-awareness.

  4. Healthy Relationships & Respect – Understanding boundaries, consent, and positive communication.

  5. Role Models & Leadership – Identifying positive role models and developing leadership skills.

  6. Reflection & Journaling – Each pupil will receive a workbook to track their personal growth and insights.

Programme Objectives

  • Challenge harmful stereotypes and promote positive masculinity.

  • Encourage emotional awareness and self-expression.

  • Develop respect for others and healthy relationship skills.

  • Foster leadership and positive role modelling.

Suitable pupils

  • Boys in year 10 and 11 that have concerning views of women and girls and/or are in a difficult relationships with a female relation (mother, sister, girlfriend). 

  • Boys that have behaved in and aggressive way towards female staff members.
